Now that you’re done calculating your budget for your wedding, you might be forgetting something. The tips! Including tips in your budget is a wise decision to make while planning your wedding. Giving a tip to your vendors is a token of appreciation for the hard work they’ve put into making your wedding a success. Figuring out how much to tip your wedding vendors can be tricky, that is why we recommend making a list of all the vendors to be tipped and organizing the cash tips into envelopes in advance. Apart from giving tips, another way to show your appreciation is by rating them online and recommending them to your friends and family!
Assign the job of handing out tips to a friend or family member at the end of the wedding. Here is a list of how much each vendor should be tipped:
It is recommended to tip the pandit that performs your wedding ceremony separately from any fee you are charged for their time. If they won’t accept cash tips, you can make a donation to their place of worship instead. If you belong to a church and a minister officiates the wedding, they probably won’t accept the tip. In such a case, it is better to make a donation to the church. Rs. 5000-7000 is the recommended tip. The tip should be given right after the ceremony, and a personalized gift would be a nice token, especially if they are a family pandit or are close to you.

Tipping your wedding planner is usually optional and can be done if feasible. The recommended tip is anywhere between 10 to 20 per cent of the final amount if you feel your wedding went beyond your expectations. If your wedding planner had an assistant, handing a minimum tip of Rs. 3000-5000 would be appreciated by the assistant.

The catering staff includes waiters, bartenders, chef and the manager. Most catering companies include a gratuity in the bill to be distributed among the workers but be sure to confirm. If a gratuity is not included, a tip of 15 to 20 per cent of your total catering bill is appreciated to be given to the manager to share with all essential workers. The tips can be paid in advance to the director of the catering company or can be handed to the workers individually at the end of the wedding.

Your wedding would not be complete without music! So, it is recommended that you tip your DJ. If you employ your DJ or band through an outsourced agency, the gratuity is usually included in the contract. If not, you are expected to pay between 15 to 20 per cent of your total bill as a tip to the musicians or the band. Make sure to tip them right after their performance. If the DJ plays the entire night, pay them at the end of the evening.

For a photographer or videographer who owns their own business, tipping is optional as they include all costs into the bill and do not expect a tip. However, if you employ an independent photographer or videographer then Rs. 3000-5000 tip is recommended. If you feel that the service you received was extraordinary and you are extremely happy with it, an extra 10 per cent tip would be a good gesture to show your appreciation.

Wherever you have the wedding, there will be people working behind the scenes. Don’t overlook these people. Even though you might not have a lot of contact with them throughout the wedding, they are essential to making your guests comfortable and happy. People like parking valets, room attendants or coat checkers are included in this category. At the end of the evening, pay these workers around Rs. 50-100 per guest to make their day too!

Although these people are not actually a part of the wedding, their roles are just as important so be sure to thank them for their efforts. Include a tip of Rs. 100-200 for the delivery people and Rs. 200-1000 for each of the drivers and transportation workers. You can give the tip envelopes to your on-site coordinator or catering manager prior to the wedding day so they can distribute them.
