Thank you cards are personally my favourite way to profess how grateful I am to somebody, and yet writing so many of these can seem like quite a task.  That said I assure you, it’s not really as difficult as it may seem, and the sheer pleasure you’ll derive out of it is going to be worth it!  Side note you get to show your creative side 😉  and the faster, you get with them the more satisfied you are going to be.

The basic essence of a well-written note is that “you acknowledge the gift by naming it and saying something about it and then just say thank you!” It’s that simple. Just in case you are still uncertain as to how to go about this, I am going to be sharing a few very simple tips and tricks with you, so read and let go of that tension!

Planning an Event?

Let’s get started with the Writing Cues

1.  Planning is Key

The moment you start sending out your invites, it’s a good idea to create a spreadsheet with all the details of your guests– name, number of people coming from their family and their address, yep! You got that right, that early!

This planning and organising are going to make your life so much simpler since it’s going to be relatively easier to track your guests down when they do send you a gift or come attend your function!

Since you already have most of the details jotted down, you just got to add the name of the gift –  what you received, and a few helpful notes, if and when required.

2.  Get, Set, Go with Thank You Cards

It’s going to be a lot easier if you start writing those cards as soon as the gift is received. That way, you don’t have to remember who gave you what, you don’t even have to make those additional notes and it’s going to help you be calmer instead of being overwhelmed when you have to write a bunch of notes later on, all together.

The sooner you write them, the sooner they are sent and the happier both the parties are!

3.  Create a Structure For Thank You Cards

Opening gifts and so many altogether can be exciting and yet can be an exhausting exercise, after a point we just want to tear them all open and get done with the task and excitement!

Instead of doing that why not create a system and be more organised, open one gift at a time, create a note for each gift that is being opened. This way you can avoid a whole lot of confusion with regards to who sent what.

4.  Break it down

Once the wedding is over there are going to be a lot of people to thank and a lot of thank you’s at the same time! And so so so many presents which would need to be unwrapped! A great trick to do this task is to break it down into smaller batches.

Set yourself a time frame, which is going to be dedicated to doing this task. That way, it’s going to be less chaotic and will help you calmly finish these thank you cards!

5.  Ask for Help in writing Thank You Cards

Share the workload with your partner, close family and friends, that way it becomes a shared and fun task to do and one person doesn’t feel overburdened!

Fun Idea: Have a nice party and treat the ones who helped you out!

6.  Themed Stationery for Wedding Thank You Cards

It’s a cool idea to find thank you cards which match the theme of your wedding. You could even order in customized invites with a monogram or a logo or hire an artist to do this job for you. Of course, only if your budget permits you to do so.

This just adds to the whole “feel good” factor and is super pleasing aesthetically.

7.  Personalize the Thank You Cards

If you could add specific information about what you really enjoyed about the gift while thanking the other party, it just shows that you really cared and appreciated the gift and makes them feel special! So, it’s a good idea to do that.

For example, you loved the new crockery set someone gave you and plan to use it for the first party. Say so!

It’s the same when you write a card for a monetary gift –  let the person know what you have in mind, that you’re going to be purchasing with the amount, or how you’ll make use of their generosity! You could even take a photo of the gift and the details on the gift to make it easier for you to remember when writing the thank you notes!

Here is an example of the Format you could use for wording your Thank you Note!

“Dear/Beloved [Guest’s Name],

Thank you so much for the (name of the gift)! [Partner’s Name] and I had been planning on buying this for our new home very soon, and we’re so excited to see (the gift) when we opened it. This is an extremely thoughtful gesture and surprise, we love it! Thank you once again for being a part of our celebration at our wedding.

Best Wishes and Warm Hugs,
[Your Name(s)]

Off course this is just an example of the format, feel free to change it, since each gift will require different wordings! For example, a monetary gift will have different wordings than the example mentioned above.

Hope you’ve got a hang of it by now though! Happy writing!
